I won this book on a different website. It didn't show the cover and the description sounded like sci-fi. The author mailed me this book, along with another one of her books, both autographed. Which was very nice. But I was immediately turned off when I saw the cover and realized that this was a romance novel. Not really my style.So. It was okay. The story was kind of cool, but could have been developed better (although this might be an unfair statement since I did not read the first two books in the series). The whole thing had a sort of cheesy feel to it. Also, there were some biblical parallels being drawn, which seemed misplaced to me. Really, this took up over half the book, with Christ's (Edan's) temptation in the desert and God's (the Cygirians') creation of a planet and all the living things on the planet.Perhaps if I were more into romance novels and biblical allusions I would have enjoyed this book more.

The Beautiful Being by Jessica Barksdale Inclan Paranormal Romance – Sept. 29th, 20094 starsThe Beautiful Being is the satisfying conclusion to Jessica Inclan’s Being series. In this book the author finishes the absorbing story of the Mirav family with Edan’s story. I have really anticipated Edan’s book because his character is so appealing and I wondered how the author would resolve his past. Edan is a tragic and heroic figure. The leader of a people hunted for their special abilities, he carries a terrible burden. Edan’s people all have talents and if they are lucky they find their twin or double with the opposite talent that complements and completes them. However, Edan is cursed with a talent that ages him and if he isn’t careful it might kill him. He has already prematurely aged himself. Unable to find his perfect match, Edan feels he is destined to die alone. Ava wishes for the impossible, her double or twin. But time has past and no man pulls to her, nor has she heard of a man with powers that complement her own. She is tortured by dreams of a man who always leaves and always wakes up feeling dissatisfied and unwanted. Although she actively helps in her peoples rebuilding efforts, she feels her actions are empty and meaningless. I really enjoyed the characters in this story; they were: vulnerable, likable and very easy to relate to. I find the idea of twins that complement each other extremely fascinating. (Wish there was more of this series slated to be published! I feel there are so many different twins with different talents that could be explored.) Jessica Inclan excels at delving into the inner psyche of her creations and bringing them to life. However, areas not related to the relationship between the characters I found somewhat confusing. I still have a feeling of not quite understanding the enemy and the Source which seemed like a spiritual place. However, the general feeling I believe the author wanted to portray, a journey toward peace, forgiveness, and completion was conveyed. As a result, I did find the conclusion of this book filled me with great satisfaction and happiness for the couple.Reviewed by Steph from the Bookaholics Romance Book Club

In "The Beautiful Being" Jessica Inclán gives the reader a wonderful, fast-paced, sexy paranormal romance. The novel is the third in Inclán’s "The Being Trilogy" (the two previous are "Intimate Beings" and "Being With Him"). You don’t have to have read the first two to enjoy this one (although you will almost certainly want to). Inclán’s heroine is Ava Arganos, a strong, lusty, intelligent woman who has recently been freed from “The Source”—a spirit storage unit reminiscent of the Tibetan Buddhist "Bardo" where souls are believed to spend the interval between death and reincarnation. Working in the desert on an alien planet where some of the inhabitants are openly hostile, Ava—who is capable of rapidly growing younger--experiences an intense longing to find her double. She only knows one thing about him: he will be able to age himself with a simple thought. Enter Edan Mirav, the handsome, lonely, brilliant leader of Ava’s people who every time he looks in the mirror sees himself growing older at an unnaturally rapid pace. You might think you can guess the rest, but Inclán is a writer who goes beyond formulas. Ava and Edan deliver all the explosive passion you expect, but Inclán enriches the tale of their romance with myths from numerous religious traditions. For example, in addition to reconfiguring the Tibetan Bardo, she reinterprets Christ’s temptation in the desert, not to mention turning a sizeable chunk of the Book of Genesis into the story of the creation of a second Earth. I thoroughly enjoyed "The Beautiful Being". In my opinion, when you get passion combined with intelligent writing, you get it all.

"They are here among us…Far from home, gifted with special abilities, hunted for their powers. And they are desperate to find their other, the one who completes them…before it’s too late…" The Beautiful Being is the third and final book in Jessica Inclan’s paranormal romance trilogy, which includes the books Intimate Beings and Being With Him. It is the story of Edan and Ava, exiled from their destroyed home of Cygiria and stuck on a hostile and unfamiliar planet. They both know their “double” is out there—the one who will complete their soul and strengthen their power—but they have not found each other yet. While Edan performs his duties as the reluctant leader of the stranded Cygirians, Ava’s heart slowly hardens, convinced that her double will never find her. But they are destined to be together, and their union explodes with passion and the surprising realization that they are more powerful than they ever could have imagined. Together, with what’s left of their orphaned people, they must fight for the very survival of their species. In this sexy and surprisingly thoughtful paranormal adventure, Inclan explores ideas of home, love, and war through the eyes of an alien people whose hearts greatly resemble our own. The Beautiful Being is a thrilling and magical ride through a world that mirrors the very best and worst of us. It is the story of the purest, most passionate love possible, and what a united people are capable of when faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

I'm not terribly familiar with most romance novels, but I found this one to be quite interesting. This is the third book in the Being Trilogy, but from what I can tell you don't have to read the others to understand what all is going on. I had no trouble picking this up and reading it without having previously read the other two. Though I'm sure the others have more back story for this and I'm thinking about going and picking them up so I can see.I thought that concept of the pairings of the couples to be really interesting, and liked the fact that they would compliment each other in someway involving their powers. Ava, the main character, is a strong and intelligent woman who I didn't find a lot of points there considering most women in romance novels have a tendency to be complete push overs. I also liked Edan a fair amount because he wasn't a macho man who had to be touch about everything. And their relationship was really nice and fulfilling. One thing I noticed were some parallels or derivatives from other places like the Christian creation story. The storyline outside of the romance was pretty interesting as well, though I wish I had read the other two first so I can see how it got to that point and so on. But I understood it pretty well without that. Plus the writing was really enjoyable to read.I do recommend this to those who really enjoy romance with a sci-fi take, mainly adults.

I won a copy of this book from the author through a contest on this site, so thank you to Jessica Inclan. However as I read this book, I didn't care for it. I do not like to read out of order so after I was able to track down the first 2 in this series I was set to read this one. I didn't make it through the first one, but did make an effort to read this one. There was a lot I missed by not finishing the first and not reading the second, but I was able to pick up where they were in the story. The main characters come from a different planet where they had enemies that set out to destroy them, leaving a few children alive and scattered through out the universe. These children have special powers and to complete themselves they need to find their double or twin who has the exact power as them only the opposite effect. This book is centers around Edan, who is the leader and Ava, who is a cook. Once they find each other after Edan goes on a quest they find they can use more than just their powers and seek a perfect world where they can resurrect their culture in peace. Along the way the old enemies come back and seek their help, the later half of the book centers on if you can believe/forgive the same people who exterminated 90% of your people.

I won this in a goodreads giveaway and was eagerly anticipating reading it. Unfortunately I had a reading lull and only got to read it recently. I must say it wasn't quite what I was expecting. Part of my problem with the book I know came from the fact that I haven't read the first two books in the series. I'm sure that if I had some of the interactions and comments that confused me or struck me as odd wouldn't have. The other part was that this book felt far more scifi than paranormal to me. Not that that's a bad thing, I enjoy scifi too, it just wasn't what I was expecting. The characters and the environment were richly drawn and original which is always pleasant and I particularly enjoyed seeing how the characters interacted both with each other and with their environment. I also enjoyed the diversity and range of powers possessed by the species. It was far more interesting to have everyone with their own specialty trying to figure out where they could fit in than to have one big group that all did the same thing. In short, I would recommend the book to others but I suggest you read the first two in the series first and be prepared for a less paranormal more scifi vibe.

I won this book in a giveaway via the First Reads Program on Goodreads; I recieved this book today, along with another one by Jessica Inclan. Both were autographed, which was a nice touch, and I was quite surprised to find the other book in my parcel. So thank you! Now, maybe it's because I've never read the first two books or, quite frankly, even heard of this series before winning this giveaway, but I simply couldn't get into it. The fact that I don't greatly enjoy sci-fi probably added to it. From the pages that I did read, I could tell the characters are richly drawn, the plot is elaborately done, and the overall feel of the book was very gripping. Unfortunately, I still couldn't get deeply into this, as this isn't really a book I'd consider reading in everyday life.I would recommend this series to any sci-fi junkie, but I suggest reading the first two before reading this one.

I won this book on good reads. This book is number three in the trilogy. I have not read the previous books but I enjoyed this one a lot. I loved the character and this book is well written. It was a little confusing at times with the characters but in all I liked the book. I was able to follow the story without the previous books, but I will be purchasing them soon. It is very passionate and recommend that you pick this book to read.Thank you for the two autographed books I really appreciate it.

I received this book for free as part of the goodreads firstreads giveaway. Not having read the first two books in this series I wasn't really sure if I would be able to understand this book, but the synopsis got my attention. I was not disappointed, this is a sweet romance with a cool element of scifi mixed in. I love the idea of soulmates and the way Edan and Ava are meant to be with each other was lovely. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys romance.

I won this book on goodreads and was only recently able to pick it up and read it. The author was nice enough to send me this book and one of her others and I really appreciate that. The issue I had was that I haven't read the books leading up to it and I wasn't to sure about some of the background. Even with that though, I did enjoy the book and plan to read the books that came before so that I am never confused (by the books anyway, haha) again.

I won this book from the Library Thing Member Giveaway program. I thought that this was an interesting story, but I had problems following the story line, especially because this book was the third in the series and I had not read the other two books. Overall, I would recommend this book, but generally I would not recommend it without reading the other two books.

this book and its characters just didn't appeal to me. I don't know if it had anything to do with starting at book #3 but I didn't find it very interesting. The dialog is less than inspiring and sometimes hard to follow. At some future point I might try reading the first book in the series but I won't be rushing to it.
