Nice easy read! The author is good at spinning a tale of small town family feuds and gossipy trouble makers. From the little town cafe, to the local sheriff and mayor plus families intertwined in hate and greed, Leslie Hachtel tells a great story. A bit far fetched and unbelievable, the novel held my interest and I enjoyed it. The mystery was too predictable, but as a romance novel, seems usual and what most "romance readers" want. I loved the names in the book. Norma was a man, the main character was Kennedy, a girl. Delie is a sister and Judy Jane the waitress. It all fits in the town of Snakewater, with trouble around every corner. This is light reading that I would recommend for adults.I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

The author has a gift for creating a character out of a setting. You can taste the dust and feel the summer heat. And the chemistry! Sizzling! A fantastic read.

Title: Texas SummerAuthor: Leslie HachtelGenre: It's under "Contemporary Romance" but I'd classify it more as a Murder Mystery than anything. The romance was sort of fast and furious, so it was kinda lacking. :( Rating: 2-StarsThis book was defiantly not what I expected. And I don’t think, in this case, that was a good thing. During the first few chapters, Texas Summer seemed like a quirky romance between Kennedy (a small-town, southern gal with a snarky sense of humor) and a stranger named Wyile who happens upon the small-town when his car breaks down. But then, as the story progressed, I quickly learned that the book focused less on the romance between Kennedy and Wylie and more on the mystery behind the murders in the sleepy, southern town. Kennedy and Wyile’s attraction was instantaneous, and it isn’t long before they’re pulling off each others’ clothes and professing their undying love. But their happiness is threatened when they’re accused of murder. And that’s when the story takes a surprising turn down a dark road… And that brings me to the scenes that shocked me most in this book: very vulgar scenes of sex and violence. Trust me, I'm no stranger to darker books, but for some reason, in Texas Summer, they made me cringe. Something about them just didn’t work. But perhaps it was because I went into the book expecting it to be a fluffier, fun summer-romance type of read with a side of murder and mayhem, but the darker, grittier scenes in Texas Summer definitely rubbed me the wrong way. I wish I could give this book a higher rating, because at first I really thought I was really going to like the quirky small-town, strange characters, and witty banter, but within the first few chapters, it wasn’t what I expected and I didn’t particularly like the direction the story took… It was like the tone of the story didn't match the actual story, so those darker scenes thrown in felt awkward, confusing, and just plain wrong.*I was given an ARC of this book from NetGalley. But I do solemnly swear that I am up to... good on Goodreads. ;) This is a fair and honest review of this book. Pinky promise.*

** ARC received for an honest review ***Texas Summer by Leslie Hachtel is a story filled with romance, suspense, murder, love, and secrets. The last thing writer Wylie Nichols expected to happen when his car broke down in a tiny little town is that he would meet a beautiful woman who may just be more trouble than she is worth.Kennedy is a woman who has endured so much pain, betrayal, and disgust in her life she has begun to believe that everyone is right about her and she is the scum of the earth. However, Wylie doesn’t see it that way and “the immediate fire between them was almost palpable. Wylie drew in a breath, mesmerized, stumbled, then caught himself and continued forward, closing the distance. She raised her eyebrows, as if daring him to speak.”When Kennedy’s sister Delie is found brutally murdered Wylie becomes an immediate suspect. Could this kind stranger really be capable of that kind of violence? Is this another case where Kennedy’s bad judgement surfaces? As the body count continues to rack up, it looks as though Wylie and Kennedy are the prime suspects. Did Wylie’s car really break down or is that just part of an elaborate plan him and Kennedy came up with?Kennedy’s other sister Dolores has such contempt for Kennedy it is dripping from her mouth. She is convinced that Wylie and Kennedy are behind all of it to prevent Delie and Dolores from receiving money they all inherited. The mayor Freddie is also Kennedy’s stepfather and is breathing down Sheriff Miller’s neck to solve this crime immediately. As Sheriff Miller is trying to put the pieces together secrets begin to surface and he soon realizes that things aren’t always how they seem. Why would this little town suddenly be riddled with violence and murder? Nothing will prepare the reader for what unfolds and secrets that come to light. Can Wylie and Kennedy survive the predicament they find themselves in? Are they really strangers who just fell in love or are they calculated murderer’s one step ahead of everyone else?I think that Leslie Hachtel did a beautiful job of writing strong characters with a very complex history. The author took the time to give a lot of history on the characters which causes the reader to engage. I also enjoyed the fact that the author sort-of tricked us with the cover. I expected a mushy, sweet, romance between two quirky people and instead got one heck of a mystery with all kinds of things I never saw coming! WARNING: This story contains some violent sexual situations, some vulgarity, and violence.

Wylie Nichols’ red sports car breaks down near the small Texas town of Snakewater. Of course, the first person he encounters there is a lusty, beautiful woman named Kennedy. While Wylie is waiting for his car to be repaired, he receives unasked-for advice from the men in the coffee shop on what trouble Kennedy is. But it’s Wylie who causes a scene. After that, he’s Kennedy’s defender and the two become quickly wrapped up in the town’s prejudices and secrets.Kennedy is just as attracted to Wylie as he is to her. We learn that though she’s regarded as the town slut, she really doesn’t want casual, empty sex. She wants someone handsome, loving, responsible and sexy, just like Wylie. But when her sister Delie gets in the way, things get ugly, revealing long-unspoken family secrets and deceit.Wylie’s temper, which everyone remembers from the first moment he was in the town coffee shop, casts him into suspicion of murder. Wylie must reveal his own dark past to Kennedy, and as they share their bodies and their thoughts with each other, they fall ever more deeply in love. Together they untangle the town’s secrets and the family secrets. But things don’t go well when Wylie, a writer, finds his inspiration in what he and Kennedy are experiencing and uses that as a basis for his novel. Will Wylie and Kennedy's relationship last through all the pressure? Will the town’s murders come to justice? Hachtel’s writing is descriptive and evocative from the opening sentence to the last, and keeps you reading to find out. I think I finished the book within the time frame of 48 hours. It definitely was intriguing and I liked the story plot. This may just have something to do with me personally, but I did feel that some things felt over sexualized. I don't really know because I've read romance books before, but this one just had so much of that stuff in it; it was kind of overbearing. It was like I had just finished reading an encounter, but I'd turn the page and something else happened again. But hey, the next person may have thought it greatly added to the plot and was enjoyable to read. Other than that minor thing, I just about liked everything else about the book. The characters were diverse and well developed. The plot was slowly thickened at an appropriate pace. The suspense was enough to create much anticipation for the next chapter and so on. I enjoyed that a lot of the suspense that was built throughout the book was resolved as the reader finds out missing information through different character points of views. But with that in mind, it still felt like a great big surprise at the end. It was truly a great experience to read this book. My favorite part was the very end. I won't leave behind any spoilers, but you have to read it to find out. :)I received of copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Review of Texas Summer by Leslie HatchelTexas Summer is a sexy romance with that little bit extra. Love and lies, secrets and murder, all come together in small town Texas in a drama that will definitely hold your attention.Kennedy is a small town girl who has grown up an outsider in her own home town. With strained relationships between her family and neighbors, and a bad history with the men in her life, it’s understandable that she has some trust issues. When Wylie Nichols’ car breaks down just outside of town, he has no idea just how much this stop will change his life. There he finds Kennedy, who he is instantly drawn to. He also finds inspiration in the secrets and the murders that are happening around him. When the two come together, there are questions about who the murderer, or murderers, could be, and Wylie and Kennedy top the suspect list. Will the two be able to find the answers and save themselves, or will the secrets of the small town cost both of them their lives? The characters here are great, and the story line is a good one. I enjoyed watching the pieces fall into place as the story moved on. Leslie Hatchel did a good job with this one. I recommend reading this one.I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

Texas Summer is a wonderful romantic mystery! The story is chock full of murder, mystery, love, sex, and plenty of scandal. Poor Wylie Nichols has no idea what he has gotten himself into when his car breaks down outside of a small town called Snakewater, Texas and he meets Kennedy.Leslie Hachtel has done an amazing job with imagery and allowing the reader to feel as if they are right there in small town Texas. I also really enjoyed how well she developed both Wylie and Kennedy. Kennedy is this beautiful, strong-willed, sassy, and universally hated woman but I loved her from the get go. Wylie is a sexy, intelligent, and sweet man who is captivated by Wylie from the moment he meets her. Even though every person she comes in contact with is nasty and mean to her, through his eyes she is perfect. The storyline is so intriguing and although there are some predictable parts, others keep you on your toes and make it hard to put the book down! I feel that in most romance books, plot is secondary to tons of love/sex scenes and don't get me wrong this book has plenty of them but the storyline doesn't get lost and is truly interesting throughout. I loved this book and look forward to reading more from the author. I recieved a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wylie’s car just died on him in the middle in the middle of nowhere. Wylie finally spotted a house, if you could call it that. Then a woman came out on to the porch of the house. Her name was Kennedy. As Wylie drew closer there was an immediate attraction. Kennedy told him that that the next town was about a quarter of a mile down the road. Also he wouldn’t be able to miss the garage. Wylie thought the town looked like something used for a Western movie. The mechanic told him that it would take a couple of days as he had to send away for the part for Wylie’s car. When Wylie found the diner in town, Kennedy was waiting tables there. A couple of locals made a nasty comment about Kennedy, Wylie reacted to it. Kennedy seemed to know the argument was about her and she came over to him. I enjoyed this story and plot. I really liked the characters especially Wylie and Kennedy and all the ins and outs they both went through. Quite simply it was just a good book. I recommend.**I received an ARC of this story for an honest review

Wylie Nichols finds himself in a town called Snakewater in Texas. He meets Kennedy whom is about to change his life. Yet, Kennedy will also alter her own destiny too. Since Wylie’s car will apparently take a few days to repair because the mechanic has to order parts in another city, he is forced to spend a few nights at the “Sleep Tight Motel.”Kennedy has been dreaming of leaving town for awhile now. She is a hard-working waitress at Norma’s where her co-worker, Judy Jane, and townsfolk tend to gossip about her constantly. Even Kennedy’s half-sisters, Dolores and Delia clearly resent her too. It seems as if Kennedy can’t win in this town!My favorite character is Sheriff Miller whom has to discover the suspect behind some murders in Snakewater. All fingers point to Kennedy, but the Sheriff is bent on finding the real truth. In doing so, the Sheriff finally reveals his own “truth.” If there is one word that can describe what is about to befall this sleepy town it is justice.I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! I am not one who is interested in romance novels, but this author sure has a way to create an amazing story behind each romance. The story of Wylie and Kennedy is one you will not want to miss out on! An author who peruses the country to help him write his murder mysteries winds up in a very small town due to unfortunate car troubles. As he is stuck here for a little while, he rents a room and decides to enjoy some food from the local restaurant. It is here that his life will begin to change. In such a small town, death can rock the entire community; but murder will definitely cause complete turmoil. All families have their problems, but Kennedy's family is just dysfunctional. Deception, murder, greed, sex, lust, and corruption are all found within these pages. It is most definitely a wild ride! There is explicit sexual content and graphic depictions of violence, so reader beware. I would recommend this book to adult readers who love a great mystery with their love story. This was my first time reading a romance novel and it was a really fun and fast paced read! I wasn't sure what to expect but the author does a good job of painting the picture of the small Texas town and the cast of characters. I found myself actually disgusted by many of the town folk (especially the diner patrons and Kennedy's sister). This is a quick read and keeps you entertained. It opens with meeting Wylie, a stranded author in the middle of nowhere Texas and he quickly meets Kennedy and a love affair begins. I thought the action started rather quickly which was a fun surprise. There was also a murder plot going on through the town, I found this to be slightly predictable but still entertaining. It was fun to read about the romance between Kennedy and Wylie as they deal with the characters of their town. I do think the dialogue could be improved but it wasn't enough to make me not enjoy the book. *I received a copy of this book for an honest review*

The concept of this book really caught my interest. In addition, I had read another book by this author that I enjoyed. The book started off well, but unfortunately did not deliver. There was little to no character development, which prevented any connection with the characters. This, in turn, made it hard to care what happened within the story. Additionally, the story was flat and predictable. The mystery was lost as it was obvious from the beginning the identity of the murderer. In addition, the dialogue felt stiff and unrealistic. Finally, the erotic scenes felt forced and cheap. All things considered, this book was reminiscent of a cheap porn flick with a weak story and poor dialogue in between awkward sex scenes. I was extremely disappointed. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Texas Summer by Leslie Hachtel is a great read! The story is mysterious and thrilling, I couldn't put it down. Leslie Hachtel wove a thoroughly intriguing tale, involving murder, backstabbing, greed, crime, passion and love. Wylie Nichols finds himself in a small Texas town and stumbles right into Kennedy, who has captivated him like no one else ever has.Texas Summer kept me guessing, which I love when I am reading something new. The characters were captivating and well developed. This is one that I will read over and over again. I look forward to reading more from this author. So far, I have been impressed by everything I have read.I would recommend this book to anyone that likes romance novels. The graphic nature of some of themes will probably not suit younger readers. I would suggest adolescent teens and older.I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

What a fast read. The plot of this book kept me interested and I really enjoyed the pace. Every now and again, the sex scenes got to be too much, maybe a bit too often. Sometimes the plot can get lost a little when there is too much of this happening. The author did a great job creating the romance between characters. With the extra twist about the murder it makes for an intriguing fast-paced read. It takes a typical romance novel and kicks it up a level when there is greed, murder and mystery added in to spice it up some.I would say this is an adults only book, but definitely one that would be a nice read at the beach or by the pool. Great job overall.I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wylie Nichols car broke down outside the small town of Snakecreek. It was a really small town with a lot of characters that lived there. He met Kennedy on the way into town and hope to see her again. When Wylie was done at the garage and arranged for a room he went to the local diner. There he seen Kennedy again. She was a waitress there. For some reason, though most of the town didn't like Kennedy. Wylie couldn't figure that out because he found her beautiful and charming. This story contains profanity, sex scenes and lots of violence. This book may not be for all but if this doesn't bother you the story is quite good. It will hold your interest as you get to know the town and the people

Quick and easy read. I enjoyed the story lines of Wylie and Kennedy. Even though I have never lived in a small town, let alone one in Texas, the authors excellent imagery made me feel as though I had been there before. Some parts were predictable while others kept me on my toes. I thought the main characters were both likeable and obnoxious, but in a good way. Kennedy's evil stepsisters made me like her character even more. There was a good mix of action, love, lust and family drama. At times I felt like this could be turned into a Lifetime movie. The ending certainly feels like the author was setting the stage for a sequel, which I would read. I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I may have just found my new favorite romance novel setting: modern day Texas. This is a sizzling story with so much push-me-pull-you/will-they-won't-they that you won't be able to rest until the very end of the book. I didn't want this story to end (but let's be honest, I usually wind up liking the characters in romance novels so much that when they do end I'm bummed); would love more Texas romances from Hachtel in the future. Hachtel's Texas Summer stands out because there is a bit more than just lust and romance... there's greed, murder and mystery. I received a complimentary copy of this book for the purposes of my review.

Hachtel has done it again and written an intriguing, easy read! Texas Summer is one of many of Hachtel's books that I have read and like always I was not disappointed! Texas Summer was a quick page turner that captured all things interesting: love, murder, suspense, greed, money and best of all romance! Set in the hot Texas atmosphere Wylie and Kennedy's lust for one another was steamy but cooled down by the horrific murders that were taken place in Kennedy's small town. With blame being placed on Wylie and Kennedy they knew they had to figure out who was behind these murders.I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review.

I must admit I love a good cowboy story especially when the main character is a cowboy with a heart of gold, sexy as sin and extremely intelligent. For me Leslie Hachtel has created a thrilling and captivating story that had me hooked until the bitter end. Wylie and Kennedy's story is one that will keep you on your toes and delves into the depths of murder, intrigue and of course love and plenty of sex.Leslie's characters are truly amazing and the book has a strong storyline. Looking forward until the next book.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Sadly, this book didn't do it for me. I couldn't connect with the characters, there wasn't enough romantic or sexual foreplay for me, and the dark themes overshadowed any romance the story had.
