Her Christmas Pen Pal Reviews
I don't typically write reviews, but given how many people seemed to enjoy this novella, I wanted to offer a different perspective. I would actually rate this text as a 2.5 of 5 stars. I thought there was enough character development to let the characters be known, and I appreciated they were not one-dimensional. What I did not like was the pace of the latter half of the novella and the misguided emotional outbursts of Noah, the love interest. Honestly, with all that was happening in the text it could have been a full-length novel rather than a novella. The resolution felt rushed for the sake of having the text be short enough to be classified as a novella. Noah was dishonest yet still demanding of commitment Joy when she didn't have all the details necessary to make and informed decision about their possible romance. It seemed in some ways Noah was not unlike the Henry, the very man he was discouraging Joy from marrying. The novella is definitely worth the read if you want a nice, light, romantic read. The rating of 2.5 rather than 3 was because I could not get past Noah's ongoing deceitfulness coupled with his expectation of partnership.
MY THOUGHTS...I LOVED IT… LOVED IT… LOVED IT!Her Christmas Pen Pal was such a great read… this is one story I will be reading year after year – and I really hope Ruth gets the chance to write more about this nice community and these wonderful characters! From the very first page, Joy captured my attention, with the loss of her parents — to the apparent lack of feelings on Henry’s part… Henry, who she has been courting. After patiently waiting for him to propose, he seems to be moving farther away from her — and when he takes another girl home, Joy writes out her anguish — 10 pages worth — to her friend. Only the address is difficult to read and it’s delivered to a stranger!Oh my! I can just imagine her embarrassment when she receives a reply!Noah Esh is the young cabinetmaker who the letter (and a box of sweet treats) is delivered to by mistake — but after reading the letter, he feels compelled to write back.OK, I guess you can tell that I enjoyed the book so much, its’ characters are real to me; so much so that I’d love to meet Joy — she sounds like a wonderfully sweet maedel. She deserves someone much better than Henry, who seems selfish to me.Ruth writes a great story, but the community she creates and the characters are what makes this story unforgettable! If you enjoy reading a fun, heart-warming story, you’ll LOVE Her Christmas Pen Pal…
I loved this novella, I was laughing while reading it in most parts, especially when Joy is talking about and or with the male stranger.I felt like I was there with the characters in this novella, like on the side lines watching all of the happenings take place.Ruth Reid had me wanting to know how her novella was going to end. Now, I want to know what the two main characters are up too. LOL!I highly recommend this novella for the enjoyable Christmas reading. I, of course, recommend the whole novella collection, too
This was the perfect novella to read on Christmas, I really liked the concept of the pen pal relationship. There is something about talking to a complete stranger, you say things you wouldn't normally say, you reveal things you wouldn't normally reveal, because you are writing to someone you will never met and while their opinion may matter, you're more able to be yourself and the comes across in this story.I loved Joy and her passion with her bakeryI loved Noah, who wouldn't..
What happens when you pour your heart in a letter to your cousin but it is delivered to the wrong address? Well, he eats the cookies and sends you back a letter with advice. Does Joy take it or does it annoy her? She starts a pen pal relationship with her rebuttal.
Read this in my two or more hrs this morning being awake from 5:30 til almost 8. Cute story, fun and sweet. Might read something else by her!
The parents of three daughters die and leave their only legacy, an Amish bakery. A cozy story set in December; a little snow, a little romance, and some Christmas cookies.
Cute Amish novella. Great Christmas read. I laughed out loud and smiled and giggled. Fun book.
